Due to recommendations instituted by the CDC, the Collette Street Recreation Center has asked we cancel our district Republican convention to be held on March, 21, 2020.
We have been working closely with the state party to devise a plan for district and state delegate selection. The North Carolina Plan of Organization limits the number of delegates we can select for district and state levels.
In response, the Burke County GOP, at the instruction of State party officials, will host a virtual county convention via phone on Thursday, March 26th at 7:00pm. All eligible delegates who apply by March 23rd at 5:00pm are welcome to attend the virtual convention. No applications will be accepted after that time. As a prerequisite, potential delegates will need to be a registered Republican as of January 31st, 2020 to be considered for state and district conventions.
If you would like to be a delegate at our District convention or NC State Republican Convention, send your request to [email protected]. Pursuant to your request, you will receive the official delegate registration via email.
Lastly, many have asked about possibly being delegates for the National Convention. While District and State delegate positions are progressive steps to reaching the RNC National Convention, keep in mind only 110 delegates from the entire state will be representing NC. That, as a result, roughly translates to one delegate per county. The selection is tedious and there are several costs involved.
We will keep everyone informed of any further change to our upcoming conventions. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your sincere understanding. We pray you and your families stay well during this time.
